Dear Parish Family,

As we begin a new decade, a new century and a new millennium, the Parish staff of St. Robert’s pray God’s blessings upon you and your family. We pray the following Irish blessing over you.

May the blessing of Light be on you, light within and light without.

May the blessed sunlight shine on you and warm your heart till it glows like a great peat fire, so that the stranger may come and warm himself at it, and also a friend.

And may the light shine out of the two eyes of you, like a candle set in two windows of a house, bidding the wanderer to come in out of the storm.

And may the blessing of the Rain be on you-the soft sweet rain. May it fall upon your spirit so that all the little flowers may spring up, and shed their sweetness on the air. And may the blessing of the Great Rains be on you, may they beat upon your spirit and wash it fair and clean, and leave there many a shining pool where the blue of heaven shines and sometimes a star.

And may the blessing of the Earth be on you-the great round earth; may you ever have a kindly greeting for them that pass as you’re going along the roads. May the earth be soft under you when you rest upon it, tired at the end of a day, and may it rest easy over you when, at the last, you lay under it; may it rest so lightly over you, that your soul may be off from under it quickly, and up, and off, and on its way to God.

Did anyone see Santa around on Dec. 22nd? He couldn’t come himself so he sent his elves to 349 Oak to wrap up the gifts for the Shut-Ins. How busy these elves were, as only Santa’s elves could be! Before you could say Ho! Ho! Ho! they were off on the sleigh bringing the gifts that would give such joy to the elderly. You, people of St. Robert’s, were outstanding in your generosity this Christmas. There were so many Outreach programs: Food for the hungry; the Giving Tree, Adopt a Family, Gifts for the Shut-ins. The list goes on, and you supported them all. It is in giving that we receive and I know how God has blessed each of you for your generosity .

On Christmas Eve I paid a flying visit to a home-bound man. While I was there Santa came to his little three year old grandson. I cannot describe the look of awe and wonder on the little boy’s face. Now wonder Jesus said, "Unless you become like little children you will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven." Does God’s goodness to us fill us with awe and wonder? As we enter the new millennium let us be more aware of God’s blessings in our lives. "Open our eyes, Lord."

Blessings,
Sr. Ita

READINGS FOR NEXT SUNDAY,
THE BAPTISM OF THE LORD

Isaiah 42:1-7; Acts of the Apostles 10:34-38; Mark 1:7-11

IN THE HOUSE OF GOD

Happy New Year! Blessings to you and your household! The theme of this Christian Jubilee Year 2000 is "Open Wide the Doors to Christ." (The dentists’ lobby tried to have it shortened to "Open Wide".) The theme reminds us that Christ stands at the door and knocks, patiently awaiting admittance. The doors — whether they be to our hearts, our homes, or our Church — can only be opened by us from the inside. May I suggest that you bless one or all of the doorways to your home (and, in effect, the people who enter those doorways) either with Fr. Ring’s Irish Blessing (see Parish Community above) or with one of the blessings that we will distribute at Mass this weekend. - Pat Kelly

*We pray for the ill: Tony Coogan, Koret Koelman, Terry McLeod, Adela Florez, Ana Cosgaya, Peter Capodonicco, Rosemary McHale, Arthur Candia, Bastiaan Blumenthal, Muriel Krause, Sister Cabrini, Don Vickery, Jeanne McHugh, Catherine Cook, Ann Burns, Imelda Daly, Margarita Velez, Marky, Marlyn Arancibia, Marcia Bourne, Sandra Dill, & Randall Guerro.

*We pray for the repose of the souls of: May Martha Impeartrice, Damon Paoli & Frances Kollerer.

As a Parish Community, We Pray

For leaders of all nations, whose judgments shape history. May they be filled with wisdom, justice and respect for the rights of all people.

THANK YOU

We wish to thank all who donated gifts for the Giving Tree. Your generosity was overwhelming. We received over four hundred gifts and $390.00 worth of gift certificates. The gifts were delivered by two of Santa’s helpers to San Bruno Catholic Worker, Samaritan House in San Mateo and Children with Aids in San Mateo County. A spacial note of thanks to Ben Baldonado and Bob Baker who devoted many hours to collecting, sorting and distributing all the gifts.
