PARISH BULLETIN |
Dear Parishioners, Congratulations to the sixty-seven young men and women of our Parish who received the Sacrament of Confirmation on Saturday, April 29th, from the hands of Archbishop Levada. These young men and women of our Parish, who are finishing their sophomore year of high school, prepared in our Parish program for a period of two years. The program was led by Sister Mary and by a team of parishioners who dedicated countless hours to helping those who were confirmed grow in their Faith commitment. Thank you to all of them. Congratulations also to the five adults who were also confirmed. They prepared through the RICA program of our Parish. The Fashion Show sponsored by the Womens Guild was a tremendous success. A profit of $21,000 was realized. This event has many other benefits, aside from the financial help it has provided to the school, religious education and youth programs. It provided an opportunity for people to give of their time to help others. It also helped add to the social dimension of our parish life. Thanks to all who worked so hard. By the time you receive this bulletin, the Parish Golf Tournament sponsored by the Mens Club will have been held. When I was part of the winning foursome a few years ago, some fellow golfer thought I had brought along a bunch of "ringers." This year everyone is a parishioner; there can be no complaints. Sincerely, |
Im sure you enjoyed our beautiful Holy Week and Easter Ceremonies. Wasnt our Church just gorgeous! Congratulations to all who made it so joyful for us to celebrate the Paschal Mysteries. Already we are in the Month of May. Do we still remember that this is a Jubilee Year? It is a year of reconciliation, repentance and resolution. The primary objective of the Jubilee is the strengthening of faith and of the witness of Christians. That gives us plenty to think about. Have you seen the Jubilee banner that is hanging behind the organ? It is a good representation of the world wide character of the Christian message: the center, in blue, indicates the earth, with the Sign of the Cross enveloping it. The five doves of different colors represent five continents. A light shines from the center of the Cross to indicate Christ, "true light of the world", as also indicated by the words: Christ yesterday, today and forever. The way the doves are joined together indicates the spirit of unity among Gods children, and reconciliation among peoples. The Cross recalls that Christ dies for the salvation of all. The three colored lines bring to mind the mystery of the Trinity. You may have noticed the dove mobiles hanging around the Church. Now you know what they stand for. We are asked to open wide the door of our heart to Christ. Dont be afraid of a draught!!! The only breeze you will feel is the Spirit blowing new life into you. Peace, |

READINGS FOR NEXT SUNDAY, FOURTH
SUNDAY OF EASTER OUR HOUSE Whoops! Sayyy . . . whats with another change in the title of this column? First it was "Mass Musings." Then, "In the House of God." Now, "Our House." Whats up with that? In my recent studies, my good teacher reminded me that in early Christianity, the building for worship was known as the domus ecclesiae. Thats Latin for "the house of the church." Did they have (or do we now have) complete disregard for Gods presence in the church building? Not at all!! But first and foremost, you and I are the house of God. Gods Spirit dwells within us. After Holy Communion, we carry the Real Presence of Christ within us to the world. This is very important for us to remember during this Easter Season. We celebrate it in a special way in our Baptisms, Confirmations, and First Holy Communions. As we are living in Christ, Christ now lives in us. - Pat Kelly *We welcome into the family of God: Tyler Gabryluk, Andrew Dias, Mia Medrano, Kelly Long, & Giovanna Gonzalez, who were baptized in Christ. *We pray for the ill: Tony Coogan, Koret Koelman, Terry McLeod, Adela Florez, Ana Cosgaya, Peter Capodonicco, Rosemary McHale, Arthur Candia, Bastiaan Blumenthal, Muriel Krause, Sister Cabrini, Don Vickery, Jeanne McHugh, Catherine Cook, Ann Burns, Imelda Daly, Margarita Velez, Marky, Marlyn Arancibia, Marcia Bourne, William and Sandra Dill, Randall Guerro, Denise Hawald, Cyndy Smerdel, Theresa Cook, Richard Quintana, Rita Gomez, Walter Moniz, & Ann Steinerd.
