PARISH BULLETIN
May 28, 2000
Sixth Sunday of Easter

Since we are in a new century, living in a "Jubilee Year", as a "Pilgrim People", our parish will be going on pilgrimage!

--To St. Patrick’s Seminary in Menlo Park on Saturday, July 1st. We will celebrate Mass at 4:30pm in the beautiful seminary chapel where priests have been formed for service in the church for the past century. (This Mass will fulfill your Sunday obligation.) Afterwards, we will gather for a pot-luck dinner on the seminary grounds. The seminary has been designated by Archbishop Levada as one of five official pilgrimage destinations.

--To Pacific Bell Park in San Francisco on Saturday, October 28th. This Eucharistic Celebration will bring together fellow Catholics from the far reaches of our Archdiocese, coming from different directions to attend Mass with our Archbishop, two cardinals, and many clergy and religious men and women from all our parishes.

Some of you may remember the "Rosary Crusade", where tens of thousands of Catholics gathered in Golden Gate Park about forty years ago. Or, you may have come to Candlestick Park thirteen years ago when Pope John Paul II came to visit us. This Mass at Pacific Bell Park will be equally momentous. Will you come along on the pilgrimage? In future decades, we who celebrate this Jubilee Year will be telling the next generations how we all took trains, buses, cars, or walked by the thousands to "come together as one Body of Christ" in the year 2000.

Please make the most of these Holy Year opportunities by putting the dates on your calendars right now, and by letting us know that you are planning on attending.

Fill out the form in the Bulletin so that we will know how many people to expect. Drop the slip in the collection or at the parish office.

We need to know as soon as possible in order to plan the Seminary pilgrimage, and the Archdiocese would like a preliminary estimate by June 2 for Pacific Bell Park.

JUBILEE BLESSINGS THIS WEEK TO:
U.S SERVICE PEOPLE AND VETERANS

IN OUR HOUSE

Have you ever thought of yourself as a minister in the church, or as one doing a ministry—that is, a service in the name of Christ and in the power and guidance of his Spirit? Don’t worry, this is not a recruiting pitch, because the truth is that you are already involved in a "ministry" of sorts: THE MINISTRY OF THE ASSEMBLY. It is a ministry which belongs to all of us, whether we realize it or not. When we gather together in the name of Jesus Christ to celebrate the sacraments, we have RESPONSIBILITIES and OPPORTUNITIES to serve one another. More next week. - Pat Kelly

We are pleased to have married: David Jones & Tracey Madden. Congratulations!

We pray for the ill: Marlyn Arancibia, Bastiaan Blumenthal, Marcia Bourne, Ann Burns, Sister Cabrini, Arthur Candia, Peter Capodonicco, Theresa Cook, Ana Cosgaya, Imelda Daly, William & Sandra Dill, Adela Florez, Rita Gomez, Randall Guerro, Denise Hawald, Koret Koelman, Muriel Krause, Marky, Rosemary McHale, Jeanne McHugh, Terry McLeod, Walter Moniz, Richard Quintana, Cyndy Smerdel, Ann Steinerd, Margarita Velez, & Don Vickery.

A LETTER FROM FATHER RING

Dear Parishioners,

Last week, I attended the ordination to the priesthood of Fr. Bob Mendonça for the Diocese of Oakland. While at St. Patrick’s Seminary, Bob served our parish in music ministry for a few years. To be ordained on June 10th is Brian Costello for the Archdiocese of San Francisco.. Brian has also ministered in our parish during his years of training and has made a special contribution to our school children and the RCIA program. Congratulations to both Bob and Brian. I hope that all parishioners will pray for them. We also must pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life from our own parish. Parents and community need to present the priesthood and religious life to young people as a possible and a great vocation in life. Father Mendonça will celebrate Mass at St. Robert’s on June 4th at 10:30 am and Father Costello on June 25th at 9am. Make plans to come to these Masses.

We are coming to an end of our Annual Appeal Drive. At the moment, we are short over $12,000 of the goal set for us by the Archdiocese. I am proud that 401 families have seen that this Appeal of the Archbishop will benefit the whole Church of the Archdiocese. It helps pay for the expenses involved in running the many programs that are offered from the training of future lay leaders, as well as programs for ministry to the sick, the homeless, the people in prison. As a priest, I am most grateful in that this Appeal also helps sick and infirm priests, as well as the necessary on-going educational needs of the clergy. It will benefit me personally in the very near future. More news later!

If any of those who have not yet contributed wish to do so, please send your contribution to the Parish Office. Your contribution will be a sign of your commitment to the ministry of the local Church.

Any amount short of the goal, must come from the general fund of the Parish.

Thank you,
Father Ring

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

As we kneel before our Eucharistic Savior, our Eternal Father will draw us closer to His Son. Jesus will so influence us as to bring out the best that is in us. The Holy Spirit will calm us with the peace of God. The peace of soul that is ours in our moments of adoration is a taste of the eternal peace of heaven. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will take place in our church following the 8:30 AM Mass on Saturday, June 3rd, until 10 AM. All are invited....Jesus is waiting.

FATHER'S DAY SPIRITUAL BOUQUETS

Remember your father with a spiritual bouquet on Father’s Day. They are available in the vestibule of the church and can be returned in the collection basket or at the parish office.

EVENTS

Several local Churches have organized a San Bruno MARCH FOR JESUS in order to show common faith in Jesus Christ. If you wish to participate, join people from several denominations at 9:30 a.m. on June 10th at the Mastick and Sylvan parking lot in downtown San Bruno. There will be a rally and a march through the down town area. Any donations of canned goods will be given to the Catholic Worker House.
