Dear Parishioners,

The proposed new building for our Parish will provide space for programs and activities that are very much needed as we consider our present space and look to future needs. In the Educational wing of the new building, there will be an office for Religious Education (over 500 children are in this program), a teacher’s lunch room (this will free up a room in the school for counseling and small groups), a multi-purpose classroom (space is needed for science and art), and a room for Youth Ministry. In the Social/Recreational wing, there will be a hall large enough to seat 320 for dinner or to have basketball/volleyball games. This wing would have an office for a Sports Director, and stands for fans to watch games. The plans are very exciting.

As I mentioned last week, the Building Committee is now studying how other parishes financed their buildings, and will soon talk to fund raisers to judge which company will best serve our parish.

If you will be away during the summer, don’t forget to bring back a bulletin from the local Catholic Church. It is a great way for us to get some new ideas. Also, don’t forget to support your parish all summer. The bills don’t go away for the summer. No matter what, make sure you get some time of relaxation during these lazy days of summer.

Sincerely,
Fr. Vincent Ring

This past week we commemorated "Independence Day", when the founding fathers of our country put their lives on the line and signed the "Declaration of Independence" which proclaimed that the thirteen (at that time) United States of America were no longer under British control. But that same document also proclaims the "self-evident" truth that there is a Creator. And we certainly are dependent on Him. God, help us if we ever forget our dependence on the One who gave us everything. As we enjoy Summer vacation and recreation, I hope that we will give priority to Sunday Mass. Thank God we are free. Thank God for all our material blessings. Thank God for the opportunities we have to be instruments of His peace to others. Jesus said, "If you remain in my word, you will truly be my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." (John 8:32-32) We’re really only free when we acknowledge our dependence on God. --Fr. Mark Taheny

READINGS FOR NEXT SUNDAY
Ezekiel 2:2-5; 2 Corinthians 12:7-10; Mark 6:1-6

IN OUR HOUSE

During the Easter Triduum of 1999 we introduced the Glory to God arranged by the composer Grayson Warren Brown which we all now know very well. It has served us well in our gathering to hear the Word of God and to celebrate Eucharist. For the next two months we will take a break from singing the Glory to God (except for Transfiguration Sunday - August 6). We need a new musical arrangement. Reciting the Glory to God, a.k.a the Great Doxology (the Great "Word of Praise"), is a bit like reciting the National Anthem—both "function" best when they are sung. Singing helps us to bring emotion, spirit, and body in sync with the meaning of the texts. For now, we won’t have that help. Keep your heart in it! - P. K.

we welcome into the family of god: John Encinas, Elias Felix, Jessica Lowery & Aiobheann San Agustin, who were baptized in Christ.

we are pleased to have married: Michael Shaughnessy & Alexias Nickas and Randy Thomas & Raina Gibbons. congratulations!

Consider taking on the Ministry of Greeter. During the Sundays of July, friends will be available outside church before and after the 9:00am Mass to answer questions you might have about this ministry of hospitality. Singles, couples, families, and small groups can help. Once set at 9:00, we will begin the ministry of greeter for the liturgies at other times. This could be your calling!

ATTENTION SUMMER TRAVELERS!!

Will you be going to a far away island this summer or a country thousands and thousands of miles away? Well, then you could be in the running for a prize for the Church bulletin that is furthest away. Just drop it/them by the rectory on your return. Winner will be announced at the end of summer.
