PARISH BULLETIN |
Dear Parishioners, Thank you for your generous donations to the Parish during these summer months. It is all too easy to forget our need to be good stewards of our Parish during these months. This summer many small, but necessary jobs, are being done throughout the Parish plant. The altar in our Chapel has been restained. The garage in the upper yard has a new roof and will soon be painted. Also painted have been the library, the Reconciliation and Little/Middle Church rooms in the Church, classroom doors and the conference room in the Rectory. Thanks to volunteers, countless other jobs are being done. Steam cleaning staircases, cleaning out areas under the stage and in other buildings and on and on. Thanks to those who give of their time and talent. A year from now we will look seriously at the need to paint the outside of the convent and do other major maintenance work. Bishop W. Walsh of Killaloe in Ireland recently gave a talk which I agree with very much. He said: "...The church must continue to press this image of family as two parents loving each other and as a result of that love bearing children. That is the ideal and will continue to be the ideal. The reality of life, however, is that families come in all shapes and sizes... I do believe that the manner in which we have treated some people in the past has been less than Christian ... Christ did not condemn those who failed to meet the ideals of the Church, but only those who pretended to live by those ideals and condemned other who appeared to have failed to do so. We must not condemn. We must not question the nature of that love that may not meet our ideals. We must celebrate family, and all that is possible in family." Sincerely, |
Dear friends, I would like to share a letter with you. Im certain something similar could have been written about many people in the parish, lay, religious, or ordained . . . " Something (maybe the Holy Spirit) keeps nagging at me to share my own personal miracle with the parish. My daughter Anne recently died after a 3 year battle with cancer. I prayed for two things for usthat she would find her way back to our Faith and she wouldnt have a long time to suffer if she couldnt survive. With the help of Deacon Duffey who became her friend 3 years ago at the time of her first surgery, she renewed her Baptismal Vows on Holy Saturday in a lovely ceremony that she and Rusty planned. When she received her last anointing she was able to answer all the prayers with Father Mark just a few days before her death on May 4th. Rusty was faithful and frequent visitor who encouraged Anne in her journey back to Jesus and her battle with her illness. I just need to publicly thank him. Were all so lucky to have him in our Parish." Georgia Rochford Id bet Rusty would be the first to point out many others who are doing the Lords work quietly and beautifully in their lives. That happens a lot around here. Chalk it up to the Spirit of God living and active among us, the Body of Christ. Give thanks. - Pat Kelly P.S. Please read Chapter 6 of the Gospel of John to prepare for the next few Sundays. I hope they will be a jubilee moment for us to renew understanding and appreciation of Eucharist. |
