Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Friends,

A friend recently e-mailed me with this reflection:

"Did you ever stop to think about how ordinary things can take on so much value and meaning when they are placed in the right hands? . . .

A golf club in Tiger Woods’ hands . . . worth millions!
A microphone in Oprah’s hands . . . she’s made a fortune.
A phone in the hand of a friend calling to say "Hello" . . . priceless.
Ordinary nails in the hands of Christ . . . .

Think about how much meaning and value your life has when you place it in the hands of Christ."

This Labor Day weekend, consider the great labor of love God is working in this world, in our community, and in your life. So much of it happens through our hands, our hearts, our minds, our voices. And yet we labor nearly in vain if we are not attuned to the prompting of the Holy Spirit. We accomplish so little if we never rest.

This week we celebrate the Jubilee Day for Workers, Crafters, Builders, and Trades People. May God bless the work of your hands and keep you safe from harm.

Pat Kelly

ARCHDIOCESAN JUBILEE MASS 2000

The Archdiocesan Jubilee Mass is at Pac Bell Park on Saturday, October 28. Admission is by ticket only, but the tickets are free! Be sure to sign up as soon as possible so that we can request tickets for each of you. We are planning to take the Caltrain, but we also have a limited number (97) of seats available on buses for those who would have difficulty taking the train. Each parish will order T-shirts of differing colors and bring a special banner. (Our color is Kelly Green.) The cost of the T-shirt is $5. We need to turn in our count soon, so order yours right away! St. Robert’s parishioners will be seated in the section behind home plate. Doors open at 12 Noon, a Pre-Liturgy Celebration will begin at 1:30, and the Mass will begin at 3:00pm. (This Mass will fulfill your Sunday obligation.)

The Ballpark will be crowded with thousands of Catholics from every corner of our archdiocese, sisters, brothers, priests, bishops, and two cardinals.

This Eucharistic celebration, in this Jubilee Year, will be a tremendous sign of God’s presence, uniting us all in a joyous celebration of faith!

The Parish Office will be closed Monday, September 4th - in observance of Labor Day.
