PARISH BULLETIN |
Dear Parishioners, In todays Gospel Jesus tells us that the whole of Religion can be summed up in the two commandments of love: Love of God and Love of neighbor. Here in a nutshell is the whole of Jesus teaching. As we mull over this particular dialogue between Jesus and the scribe, we see that the man was open and responsive to Jesus word. When Jesus heard that the man answered with true understanding He said to him: "You are not far from the kingdom of God", indicating that we also have to strive to grow in our love for God and for one another. This week, let us pray that Jesus touches our hearts so that we may be able to love, and then we will enjoy the peace and unity that God has promised us. Sister Mary |
"People of God: Called to be Holy" Last week I asked the question, "To what kind of holiness is God calling us?" During November we honor and re-devote ourselves to the Communion of Saints. We commit ourselves to be a holy people before God and the world. We reaffirm that the Church is holy because Jesus Christ has made it holy, despite our occasional sins and failings. For the next few weeks, I want to share with you the vision of holiness shared by our bishops of the Second Vatican Council. They wrote, It is evident to everyone that all the faithful of Christ, of whatever rank or status [i.e., not only priests and religious], are called to the fullness of the Christian life and to the perfection of charity; by this holiness as such a more human manner of living is promoted in this earthly society. (Lumen Gentium, #40) Holiness is a call for everyone, and its not a pie in the sky endeavor. Its very much rooted in aksing God to perfect our "human manner of living" day to day, hour to hour. -Pat Kelly |

IT'S TURKEY TIME...well, sort of: |
This Thanksgiving Season the members of our St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Roberts are collecting Gift Certificates and Script for Albertsons, Lunardis, Safeway, Molly Stone in lieu of frozen turkeys. Since some families either do not have the facilities for cooking turkeys or may prefer hams, chicken or vegetables, we feel that scrip and gift certificates would be more appropriate. We will still be giving out canned food as in the past. Non-perishable food can be placed on the altar steps or in the vestibule of the church. You may make out the certificates to St. Vincent de Paul and either mail them to the Rectory or drop them in the Rectory mailbox. Thanksgiving food and certificates will be given out on Saturday, November 18th. Thank you for your support, |
