PARISH BULLETIN |
Dear Parishioners, The Fashion Show, sponsored by the Womens Guild, was a hugh success with well over 400 people attending. Thank you to the Committee that worked so hard to make it a great time for all. It was so good to see parents and children from the school and from the Religious Education Program all working together for the welfare of the Parish. Sometimes people forget that the Womens Guild and Mens Club are Parish organizatins and are open to all parishioners. Thank you to all. A long standing tradition in the Catholic Church is to pray for people (living or deceased) at Mass. Since a priest can accept only one stipended intention for a Mass, there have been times when it was difficult to schedule a Mass for a special intention. This is no longer so. There are many Masses in the coming weeks that have no stipended intention. The recommended stipend set by the Archbishop is ten dollars but one should give only what they can. There are Mass cards for living or deceased available from the Parish secretary. As we enter the fifth week of Lent, we meditate upon another gift of the Holy Spirit - the gift of REVERENCE (piety). Reverence is a versatile gift; it serves many different functions. For example, we expect children to reverence and respect their parents. Reverence does not mean that the child must always be solemn and silent; there are times for children to laugh and shout. But reverence demands that the child remember who is whowho is the child and who is the parent. When this perspective is forgotten and the child becomes demanding, insisting on its own way, reverence is lost. As Lent comes to a close, our journey through this holy season brings us to Jesus death on the cross. Reverence places us at the foot of that cross, looking up to the face of Jesus. This perspective lets us see our relationship to God: the saved and the Savior. The Gift of Reverence enables us to act in the light of this reality and to show our gratitude by our piety and devotion. It is the Holy Spirit who enables us to pray, "Our Father...." We are Gods children. Idea: This week I will be aware of the crucifix at Mass and worship before a crucifix in private. Prayer: God of Reverence, you are always in loving relationship with your creation. May your Holy Spirit of Reverence place us confidently in your loving embrace. Sincerely, Fr. Ring |
