PARISH BULLETIN |
Dear Friends: Summer Vacation has come and Im sure you had to rearrange your schedules. Of course you didnt forget a little time for Scripture Reading. Id like to share with you some verses that have been helpful to me. You are the light of the world - do not hide your light. Light adds nothing to what is already there. It just helps us to see it. If I am light, as Jesus says, then I must see the goodness in others. I must help them to see the goodness in themselves. Remember that God created us good. You are the salt of the earth. What does salt do? Of itself it doesnt taste too nice. Nobody would think of eating a spoonful of salt! But just imagine what it does to our food. It brings out the flavor. If I am salt I bring out the goodness in others. Salt also preserves. By my good example, I help others to preserve the goodness in their lives. Come to me if you are weary. My yoke is easy and my burden light. We all get weary at times and we certainly dont feel that the burden is light. Jesus meant what He said so why not hand it all over to Him. No great miracle will happen, but He will give us all the strength we need. The load is lighter when two share it. Enjoy the summer. Live in the present moment. That is all we have. Blessings galore, |
THIS WEEK IN THE LITURGICAL CALENDAR |
READINGS FOR THE 13TH SUNDAY OF
THE YEAR |
MASS MUSINGS |
Happy Fathers Day to all! Sometimes our secular holidays and religious observations seem to be at odds with one another. Which are more important to celebrate? Which are more relevant to our lives? Happily, Fathers Day and Mothers Day, always on Sundays, lend themselves to "an attitude of gratitude" that is most appropriate for our Eucharist (thanksgiving) on the Lords Day. How could we ever begin to approach God as beloved sons and daughters without some knowledge of love that we first received from Mom and Dad? And doesnt God, through Word and Eucharist, teach and empower us to show sacred honor to our parents and to be good parents ourselves? Our relationships with God, Dad, and Mom, are central to our lives, just as they were to Jesus. Reread Luke 2:39-52, the story of Mary and Joseph finding Jesus in the temple. Its an excellent Fathers Day story for daughters and sons of all ages. - Pat Kelly |

VACATION MASS CONTEST |
Once again we will have our annual contest for the Parish bulletin from a vacation church you worshiped at during the summer. The prize goes to the family who submits one from the furthest point from St. Roberts. It will be hard to beat the one last year from Germany. As you know, I enjoy seeing what is happening at other parishes so bring them to me even if your vacation destination is the Russian River or Santa Cruz. Father Ring |

LETTERS TO GOD FROM OUR 3RD GRADE RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CLASS |
Dear God, You are wonderful. I think you are the best person in the whole universe. I wanted to thank you for all of the times when I was upset and you helped me when I prayed to you. I hope you appreciate the time I took every night to learn the Apostles creed. I just want to say one more thing. I love you. Dear God, Please help me have a safe and fun summer. |
A NOTE FROM FATHER RING |
Dear Parishioners: I am happy to announce that Archbishop Levada has assigned Father Mark Taheny as Associate Pastor of our Parish, taking the place of Father John Glogowski. As you know, Fr. John has been appointed Pastor of St. Matthias Parish in Redwood City. Fr. Taheny is a native of San Francisco, a graduate of St. Ignatius College Preparatory and of the University of San Francisco. He did his theological studies at St. Patricks Seminary in Menlo Park and was ordained a Priest in 1995. For the past four years, he has been Associate Pastor of Epiphany Parish in San Francisco. The appointments become effective on July 1st. There will be a farewell reception for Fr. John on Sunday, June 27th, after the 10:30 Mass. I hope that many of you will be able to come and thank Father for coming to our rescue. Sincerely, |
MASS INTENTIONS |
One of the teachings of the Church is that after death, all who die in Gods grace and friendship, but still infectly purified, are indeed assured of their eternal salvation; but after death they undergo purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven. It is based on this tradition that Masses are celebrated in memory of those who have died. From the beginning the Church has honored the memory of the dead and offered prayers in suffrage for them, above all the Eucharistic sacrifice, so that, thus purified, they may attain the beatific vision of God. If you wish a Mass celebrated in memory of a loved one, please phone the Parish secretary at 589-2800. Masses are also offered for the intentions of the living. It is a beautiful present to a loved one. |
