FILIPINO-AMERICAN
GROUP
The
Fil-Am Group of St. Roberts is open to ALL Fil-Am
members of the parish and ALL their friends.
Meetings are held every few months, depending on
scheduled festivities/celebrations.
Fil-Am
is involved with social as well as religious and
spiritual activities to meet the needs of our
members and of our parish. There are three major
devotional practices/festivities that the
year:
|
1)
|
|
Flores
de Mayo is celebrated to honor and
commemorate our Blessed Mother during the
month of May. A flower offering by the
children of the parish takes place during
a special 11:30 mass during the entrance
procession, and the statue of our Blessed
Mother is crowned with flowers. A
reception/fellowship follows after the
mass at the entrance of the church. All
are welcomed.
|
|
2)
|
|
San
Lorenzo Ruiz, the first Filipino saint, is
honored with a nine-day novena held at
various members homes, culminating
with a special 11:30 mass on the Sunday
closest to his feast day of September
28th. The mass is followed with a
reception/fellowship. Food is served and
shared among friends and the St. Roberts
community.
|
|
3)
|
|
Simbang
Gabi is a nine-day schedule of novena
masses before Christmas. It is
traditionally held December 15th thru the
23rd. This is a beautiful tradition that
expresses the culture and religious
heritage of the Filipinos. It is a joyous
way to prepare for the birth of Christ and
prepare for the Christmas Holidays. A
reception/fellowship follows after each
mass, and a Christmas party is held on the
last day (23rd) at Henessey Hall. Food is
contributed by Fil-Am members and shared
among all friends and the community of St.
Roberts.
|
Another important activity that FilAm members are
involved in is our "famous" lumpia booth during the
St. Robert's Festival. This is an important
activity for the school for which FilAm members
cook and sell lumpia and other Filipino dishes to
help with fund raising for the
school.
Also,
FilAm members have a very active choir that sings
during the 11:30am Mass on Sundays.
FilAm
is a very active and committed group of
parishioners, and we definitely welcome new members
dedicated to our common fellowship for St. Robert's
parish.
