PARISH BULLETIN |
Dear Parishioners,
In many respects, the image of kingdom is something pretty foreign to us. But actually, in the natural order of things, we are all part of a kingdom. Scientists have established levels of hierarchy, such as phylum, class, family to define a species. So the concept of kingdom is not so irrelevant to us. And if we reflect on our physical complexity, we can appreciate our place of honor in this natural kingdom. Our celebration of Christ as king elevates this experience of participating in a kingdom to its highest and eternal level. And we are all in it together. Our readings lay out for us a celebration fit for a king. There are visions and riddles and plotting and deep mystery; and in the end, the revelation of truth. David tells us that in this kingdom, people will come and go, but God is about building a kingdom that will endure forever. For a people of faith, this anticipated king will have a unique relationship with God. His will be an unparalleled mission, a mission not defined by human boundaries, a mission of salvation for all. We continue to read of dreams and visions in the book of revelation. In this new world described by John there will be no more persecution. The ruler will be Jesus Christ, the lamb who gave his life for us. Finally we come to the plotting and mystery of it all. The king, the lamb, Jesus Christ, stands before the Roman governor who questions him: What have you done? Are you a King, then? A hush falls over the crowd and Jesus gently responds that his kingdom does not belong to this world. Jesus explains to Pilate that his kingdom does not depend on physical force but rather the allegiance of the heart set on living the truth. Pilate responds What is truth? As our life unfolds, this question engages us at every turn. Jesus says I am your truth. Christ, our king, proclaims again, “Let me reign in your heart and throughout the world.” Father Bruce |

Like last year we have designated families affected by Hurricane Katrina from our Adopted Parishes in Gulfport, Mississippi. We will be having a “Giving Tree” set up in front of church. This tree will be “decorated” with paper ornaments containing a profile of a family you might be able to help. If you have the means to share your Christmas spirit, stop by and pick an ornament. Gifts or Scrip will collected after Masses THIS WEEKEND and Dec. 2 & 3 and be Collected Dec. 9 & 10 and 16 & 17. Call Rob Aveson for more information. |
