PARISH BULLETIN
April 29, 2007
Fourth Sunday of Easter

Dear Parishioners,

Once again we sat on our deck, warmed by the sun, sipping our mid-day tea. We were discussing one of our family members who unfortunately has chosen a very bumpy road of life. (Maybe you are experiencing a similar situation.) We can see the looming pitfalls. Try as we have, we are powerless to pull him back. As we marveled at the beauty of our garden—God’s creation, this little poem came to one of us:

Trust the seed I have planted.
You have watered it well.
Trust the seed I have planted.
Time will tell...time will tell!

You have tended My vineyard.
You have nurtured this vine.
Trust the seed I have planted.
He is Mine...he is Mine!

Smile for Me, My Caring One.
Don’t you know that we have won.
Trust the seed I have planted.
It will grow...it will grow!

It won’t be easy, but we agree that we do need to stop worrying-so we give our fears to Jesus and trust in Him, whom we know holds our loved one in the palm of His Hand. He may trip and fall, but Jesus will lift him up again and again. He will direct his steps to the path that will lead him home. Jesus loves him even more that we do.

Together we say:
JESUS, WE TRUST IN YOU!

Sincerely,
Gene and Anna May

As a Parish Community we pray …....on this world day of prayer for vocations, we pray that many young people will be guided by the Holy Sprit to give their lives in the service of God’s people, as Priests, Deacons, Sisters and Brothers.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
May 5th

Cardinal Jozef Tomko has said: “Devotion to the Eucharist is needed in a world shaken by the dark shadows of wars both known and forgotten…(and by) the ideological attacks on marriage, the family and on human life from its conception.” Eucharistic Adoration will take place in our church on Saturday, May 5th following the 8:30 a.m. Mass, concluding with Benediction at 10 a.m. There is no greater way to energize ourselves that we may live the Eucharist than by spending time in the Presence of the Source of Life and Mercy.

THE CROWNING OF OUR BLESSED MOTHER
May 6th

On May 6th at the 9:30 a.m. Mass the children of the parish will honor Our Blessed Mother by presenting her with a crown of flowers. Children are encouraged to bring fresh flowers and come early to participate in the opening procession into church.

AIDS LUNCH
May 9th

We are scheduled for the 2nd Wednesday of each month. If you can prepare a favorite cookie, snack or lunch item for 10 to 12 people, please drop it off at the Children's Chapel, in the back of Church, by 9 a.m. on May 9th. Please pack the items in a non-returnable container. Frozen items are ok!

Thanks to all who contributed their time and energy.

EASTER BASKETS FROM THE
SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY

On Holy Saturday morning, 24 volunteers gathered in our vestibule to enjoy refreshments before heading out to deliver 109 baskets along with 2 boxes of donated foods to the children of 48 needy families. The baskets were put together by ladies of the parish with help from the St. Robert’s teens: Chris Sander, Paige Bouey-Suen, Jayna Tuiasosopo, Jenevieve Villanueva, Corey Topper, Nicole Balle, Paolo Catane and last but not least Nicole Antonis. You, young people are a real blessing. Thank you so very much!! The contents were purchased by Barbara Tursi and Candie Wholey who have already said they would love to head up the committee next year. The baskets were truly a work of genius. Thank you all who give to the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the people who continue to volunteer. 109 Children were a little happier because of you good and holy people.

BRIDGING THE MIDDLE EAST DIVIDE

The Bay Area Jewish-Palestinian Living Room Dialogue groups are offering an evening with two professors, Palestinian and Israeli, who have created a high school history-teaching textbook presenting the stories of both communities. It will be held at St. Ignatius High School, in San Francisco, on Thursday, May 10 at 7 pm. Reservations are requested by this Tuesday if possible to LTraubman@earthlink.net or 650-574-8303. Admission is free; donations appreciated. Please see Sr. Sheral for a flier or e-mail her. She can offer a ride to three others.

GOT FLOWERS?????

If anyone has flowers, we'd welcome them for the altar. We're continuing the celebration of the Easter season for 50 days, as the Church asks us to. If you'd like to help arrange the flowers on Friday afternoons, please contact me. Thank you in advance

Lobby Day
Yesterday, Sisters Ita, Patricia, Michael Maran and I went to Sacramento with 98 others from the Archdiocese as part of the California Catholic Conference’s effort to lobby for the Church’s position on several pending measures. Bishop Richard Garcia, now Bishop of Monterey, was the main celebrant of the Eucharist in the Cathedral and Bishop Gabino Zavala preached about the importance of political action in living out our faith. Reminding us of the continued demands of the spiritual and corporal works of mercy, he spoke of the need to press for the comprehensive immigration reform our country’s bishops support and for the respect for life from the moment of conception until natural death. The cathedral was almost filled with young and older parishioners of every ethnic group from all the California dioceses and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. We walked to the Capitol with signs saying, "Dignity, Respect, Justice" and ate on the lawn as we solidified plans to meet with legislators.

Of the 3000 bills pending, the California Catholic Conference, the legislative arm of the bishops, had chosen the following four. The Compassionate Choices Act, AB 374, allows physician- assisted suicide, and is strongly opposed by the Church, hospice providers, and advocates for low-income people lacking the health insurance which would make pain management accessible. The Dream Act, SB 160, would allow undocumented students to apply and compete for financial aid at California public colleges; there is state and federal money which is not yet being used. The Compassionate Release Bill, AB 1539, seeks to streamline the process for obtaining release for prisoners with a death diagnosis of six months or less. George Salinger, a deacon from St. Matthias Parish with 19 years of experience in prisons and jails, spoke of his experience of several totally incapacitated inmates who died while awaiting their release. The Food Stamp Bill, AB 1060, will simplify the application from quarterly to semi-annual and will, hopefully, reach the two million Californians who are eligible, but don’t receive them.

Among other activities, we sisters sat in on Assembly Speaker Fabian Nuñez’s hearing on AB 8, his bill for reforming health care and heard supporters, supporters with amendments, and opponents express their views. It was most interesting!

Peace, S. Sheral
