PARISH BULLETIN |
Dear Friends, People of God: This is not Fr. Ring. Dont be disappointed. While he is recuperating, his weekly column will be written by various staff members. You are stuck with me this week. I am so happy to write because I want to thank you for your wonderful outreach to the needy, the elderly, and those in Convalescent Hospitals over the Christmas Season. We have received many letters of appreciation from the recipients of your generosity. They were truly grateful. Do you feel a little nostalgic now that the trees, lights and decorations are put away? Oak Ave., where I live, was like Fairyland for a few weeks. It was so beautiful. Now I miss the tinsel and glitter. This brings my mind back to the Christmas message. The Crib, stark in its simplicity, had its own little cozy feeling. It was so peaceful. As I knelt there, I felt that all was right with the world. Our God, a little babe, was with us and welcomed everyone. Peace on earth! The Gospel tells us that the Magi, after adoring the Infant Jesus, went back ANOTHER WAY to their own country. You and I have also adored Him and now we are back to our everyday routine. Have we come back the same way or have we come ANOTHER WAY, a way of more love, patience, forgiveness. Think about it. Sincerely, Sister Ita |
THIS WEEK IN THE LITURGICAL CALENDAR |

MASS MUSINGS |
"Full, Conscious, & Active Pariticipation" Last week we introduced "full, conscious, and active participation" as a vision for how we must celebrate liturgy. I put that phrase in quotation marks because its not mine. Its from the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, written in 1963 during the Second Vatican Council. In paragraph #14 it says this: The Church earnestly desires that all the faithful be led to that full, conscious, and active participation in liturgical celebrations called for by the very nature of the liturgy. Such participation by the Christian people as "a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, Gods own people" (1 Pt 2:9; see 2:4-5) is their right and duty by reason of their baptism. . . . This full and active participation by all the people is the aim to be considered before all else. For it is the primary and indispensable source from which the faithful are to derive the true Christian spirit. |

WEEK OF
PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY |
The week of Prayer for Christian Unity begins tomorrow, Jan. 18th until Monday, Jan. 25th. Ecumenical Sunday is celebrated on January 24th. Our challenge at the close of this second millenium is to recommit ourselves to the unity of all Christians. We pray that our hearts be opened to Jesus own prayer that all might be one. We must work together for, as we experience one another, the barriers of prejudice, race, gender, denomination will be seen as descriptive of who we are, not divisive nor destructive to the goal of who we might be. Please set aside this week to prayer for Christian Unity. The Prayer Guides will be available after Masses this weekend. |
A MESSAGE FROM FATHER JOHN |
Dear Parishioners, Just a short note to say thank you for the warm welcome I received over last week and weekend. I know that serving the community here will be a joy and easy with your support and the great staff here at St. Roberts. My special thanks to Fr. Morris for making sure that I am known and aware of the many activities that the community undertakes. I will be happy to do what I can to "administer" the parish in Fr. Rings absence and turn the helm back to him in running order on May 1st. Thank you again. Sincerely,Father John |
JOIN RENEW 2000 IN FEBRUARY |
Renew 2000 starts in Feb. and will focus on the Lenten theme of "conversion". Conversion means hearing anew the Gospel message which calls us to die a little more to self and live a little more like Jesus. Sunday after Sunday the liturgy invites us to see ways in which we encounter Jesus in the ordinariness of life. Renew 2000 provides a wonderful way to participate in faith sharing. Renew sign up Sunday is Jan. 31st after all the Masses. |
