(During Fr. Ring’s recovery, the members of the parish staff will be writing the pastoral letter. Today’s letter is from Deacon Rusty Duffey)

Dear Parishioners:

Recently, this year’s RCIA class attended a one day retreat at Mercy Center. One of the activities was to prepare a life-line picture. Participants recalled important events, people and dates. They were then encouraged to share their stories with the group. One of the reasons for this activity is to highlight the times when we felt God’s presence in our life. Through the experience, we realized that God was present in the most joyful times as well as the down times. Usually it was through another person that we felt God’s love and forgiving compassion.

On the next rainy day this might be an interesting experience for parents to share with their children. After preparing a life-line, break out the photo albums and see the pictures of those important people. There’s potential here for a wonderful family experience.

Isn't it a miracle how God works through us even when we don’t know it’s happening? Blessings and many visions of God.

Sincerely,
Deacon Rusty Duffey

MASS MUSINGS

"Full, Conscious, and Active Participation"

I remember going to Notre Dame football games when I was in college. Just about the entire student body would go to those games, and I always felt a great pride and excitement being part of that body. We knew we could make a difference in the game by the way we cheered and chanted. Have you ever been to a game, rally, convention, or concert and known you were part of something big? We Christians should also know that we are part of something big: the People of God, the Body of Christ, God’s Church present in the world as a sign of God’s love and mercy. Having this knowledge is key to "conscious participation" in the Eucharist. A community that worships fully, consciously, and actively knows not only that they will make a difference in the Mass itself, but also in the "game"—in life, in relationships, and in society. To worship like this requires more than college age enthusiasm. It takes faith. Pray with me for that gift of the Spirit.

Sign up now for Renew 2000. Fill in the information form found in the Bulletin and mail or drop it by the Rectory this week. Renew’s 6-week session will begin the week of Feb. 14th. Through Renew 2000, we are called to conversion, to change whatever blocks our relationship with God and with one another. Therefore, in each session we will gather around the Word of God to faith share and to support each other.

AIDS LUNCH TIME AGAIN!

It’s our pleasure to again assist the San Mateo County Aids Clinic with their lunch program. We are scheduled for the 2nd Wed. of each month. If you can prepare a favorite cookie, snack or lunch item for 10 to 12 people, please drop it off at the children’s chapel, in the back of the Church by 9:15 a.m. on Wed. Feb. 10th. A Special Request — I’m often asked for recipes because of the fine quality of our food. Please attach them if you feel like sharing your secrets. Please pack the items in a non-returnable container. Frozen items can be donated; they will be saved for a day when no other food is provided. Please contact Deacon Duffey with questions. Once again, thanks for all your help, it’s very much appreciated.
