Easter Sunday

Dear Parishioners,

May the blessing of the Risen Christ be with you and your family.

This Easter we are happy to welcome into our Catholic community Monica Ghattas, Lisa Kreysa, and Tina Taylor who received the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist) at the Easter Vigil Liturgy. Our Parish also welcomes Heidi Cochrane who was received into full union with the Church. At Pentecost, Maryann Cappas and Elena Vall will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation at St. Mary’s Cathedral.

Thank you to Donna McGuigan, Deacon Duffey and other members of the Rite of Christian Initiation team who prepared them and walked with them on their journey.

The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) is a process developed for the spiritual journey of adults. It is meant for those who are not baptized and for those who, although baptized, have not received other Sacraments of Initiation. If you, or someone you know, would like to begin the journey to a greater understanding of your relationship to God, please call and leave your name at the Parish office. Donna or Deacon Duffey will phone you back.

Thank you to Pat Kelly and the members of the Liturgy committee for preparing the Liturgies for the Season of Lent and Holy Week. They, along with the musicians and choirs, deserve the thanks of all parishioners.

Thank you to Ben Baldonado and all who helped the youth of our parish in the presentation of the Passion Play on Good Friday. Your countless hours of practice were a true gift to the spiritual life of our Parish. Thank you also to Mary Ann Saisi and her fellow workers for preparing the children for the Feast of Easter.

Welcome to all who have joined our Parish Community this Easter. I hope that you will join us each Sunday as we come together to listen to God’s Word and to give thanks to God in our celebration of the Eucharist. Our celebrations of the Lord’s Passion, Death and Resurrection take place in an imperfect world and in an imperfect church, but they provide a taste of the glory that will one day be ours.

Sincerely,
Father Ring

Happy Easter, everyone! Please, let’s give thanks for the abundance of blessings which have flowed from Christ. How great is God!

In giving thanks, please remember these parishioners who put a lot of time and talent into our Lenten and Triduum liturgies:

The parish staff: for much patience, prayer, assistance, and wisdom of experience shared in preparation for the Triduum.

Our musicians: Don Thompson, David Martin, Sue Keyser, Jim Kason, Manny Ortiz and the Noon Mass Choir, the 10:30 Mass Choir, and the 5:30 Mass Choir. Thank you all!

The environment and art committee: Tom Dachauer and his stupendously helpful crew, Catherine Bendick, Kacie Carey, and Una Uniacke.

Liturgy Committee members: Gene and Anna May May - for scheduling ministers, buying supplies, and miscellaneous tasks too numerous to name; MaryAnn Saisi - for much work preparing Palm Sunday and Holy Thursday; Michelle Compton - for the beautiful Triduum worship booklet.

The ministers of the liturgy: each prayerful assembly of parishioners, altar servers, lectors, eucharistic ministers, ushers, priests, and deacon and greeters who make it all happen with the help of God! - Pat Kelly

DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY

Last year, Pope John Paul declared that "the Second Sunday of Easter (next Sunday) is to be called "Divine Mercy Sunday". Jesus told St. Faustina Kowalska: "Tell the whole world about My inconceivable mercy. I desire that the Feast of Divine Mercy be a refuge and shelter for all souls, and especially for poor sinners. On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the fount of My mercy. The soul that will go to Confession, and receive Holy Communion (on this day)** shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment...Mankind will not have peace until it turns to the Fount of My Mercy."

**Confession within a reasonable time before the Feast is sufficient. One must be in the state of grace to receive the extraordinary grace promised by Our Lord.

Pray     *    Fast    *    Learn     *    Give

Rejoice in the glory of the Risen Lord! This joyous occasion also marks the end of our participation in Catholic Relief Services’ Operation Rice Bowl program. Through our prayers, fasting, learning, and giving, we have truly answered our call to global solidarity. May we continue to foster solidarity througout the year.

Operation Rice Bowl donations may be brought to the parish office this week.

Special Thanks to Joe Yanke and Kathy Hanley for coordinating the distribution and publicity for Operation Rice Bowl at St. Robert’s.

RECEPTION OF COMMUNION

If anyone finds it difficult to walk up to the front of church to receive Communion, we would like to offer you assistance. We can have a eucharistic minister come to you, where you are seated, or have an usher escort you. If you need help, please call Pat Kelly at 589-2800, or speak to an usher or eucharistic minister before Mass.

BEEN AWAY FROM THE CHURCH FOR AWHILE?
NEVER RECEIVED BAPTISM, CONFIRMATION, OR FIRST COMMUNION?

We would like to invite any adult who has been away from the Sacraments or who has never received Baptism, Confirmation, or First Communion to please call the rectory and leave a message for Deacon Rusty Duffey. Fasting and Feasting

We cannot separate the "fasting" of the Season of Lent from the "feasting" of the Season of Easter. The following selection which was published in the wonderful magazine, THE TABLET, gives us food for thought.

Fast from judging others;
          feast on the Christ dwelling in them.
Fast from emphasis on differences;
          feast on the unity of life.
Fast from apparent darkness;
          feast on the reality of light.
Fast from thoughts of illness;
          feast on the healing power of God.
Fast from words that pollute;
          feast on phrases that purify.
Fast from discontent;
          feast on gratitude.
Fast from anger;
          feast on patience.
Fast from pessimism;
          feast on optimism.
Fast from worry;
          feast on divine order.
Fast from complaining;
          feast on appreciation.
Fast from negatives;
          feast on affirmatives.
Fast from unrelenting pressures;
          feast on unceasing prayer.
Fast from hostility;
          feast on nonresistance.
Fast from bitterness;
          feast on forgiveness.
Fast from self-concern;
          feast on compassion for others.
Fast from personal anxiety;
          feast on eternal truth.
Fast from discouragements;
          feast on hope.
Fast from facts that depress;
          feast on verities that uplift.
Fast from lethargy;
          feast on enthusiasm.
Fast from thoughts that weaken;
          feast on promises that inspire.
Fast from shadows of sorrow;
          Feast on the sunlight of serenity.
Fast from idle gossip;
          feast on purposeful silence.
Fast from problems that overwhelm;
          feast on prayer that undergirds.
