Dear Parishioners:

All too often we leave the task of spreading the Good News of Christ to other people - let the bishops do it, let the missionaries do it, etc. However, it is a task that was given to all of us on the day of our Baptism. During this week, meditate on these words:

Communion Reflection

Christ said: ‘The harvest is great,
but the labourers are few.’
Hence what we need is:

More to approve, fewer to disapprove.
More doers, fewer talkers.
More to say: ‘It can be done.’
Fewer to say: ‘It can’t be done’.

More to inspire others with confidence,
fewer to throw cold water on everything.
More to take one step in the right direction.
More to get into the thick of things.
More to do something about it,
fewer to sit on the sidelines finding fault.

More to point out what is right,
fewer to keep harping on what is wrong.
More to light a candle,
fewer to curse the darkness.

The labourers are indeed few -
those who are willing to put themselves out
to bring Christ’s healing, love and hope to others.
Why can’t I become one of those labourers?

Sincerely,
Father Ring

What Good are Rituals?

The last few weeks we have been looking at some of the causes behind someone’s dissatisfaction with the Mass. Sometimes a person might leave feeling dissatisfied because he or she came looking for the wrong thing from God or the Church. Sometimes, the ministers of the liturgy don’t "deliver" as we might hope they would.

Ritual gatherings can seem like the "same old, same old." Have you ever had the experience of going to some family gathering only to see once again the same familiar people, watch people settle into the familiar roles — mother hen, peacemaker, rabble rouser, etc., hear some of the same old stories and bad jokes, eat pretty much the same same dinner with the same jello salad as you did the last time? Maybe you leave with mixed feelings, thinking, "That was nice to see everybody again, but why do I keep coming to these gatherings?" But maybe, a few months down the line, you actually begin to miss those people again.

We might be receiving more in these gatherings than we are immediately aware of! We keep coming to them because they give us roots, and they also give us a sense of belonging and of our personal history. At a core level, these ritualized gatherings are very important to us. The good they provide slips under the radar of our emotions—whether or not we feel good or great about them—and nurtures us at the level of our souls. On a basic human level, the Mass or any other celebration of the sacraments works like this. The challenge, however, is for each of us to be authentically a part of it. - Pat Kelly

If you call, our group will pray fervently for three days for you and your special intention. Call Michele Pipinich. We simply ask that you let us know how things turn out so that we can praise God for His faithfulness.

ATTENTION SUMMER TRAVELERS!!!

PARISH PICNIC

Our annual Parish Picnic will be held on Saturday, August 18th. Mark your calendars!

THE FESTIVAL IS COMING!!!

Plans are being made for this year’s annual parish festival "Tropical Nights", which will be Sept. 28th - 30th and, as always, the Barbecue and Food Booths are in need of your help. Several people are needed to work in these two very popular booths and everyone from the parish is welcome to help. Most shifts are for two hours, but you can work for as many hours as you would like and on all three days if you wish.

This year’s menu will include those all-time favorites - delicious barbecued tri-tip steak sandwiches, chicken sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs, polish sausages, Domino’s Pizza, nachos, soft drinks, candy, and much more.

If you can help in any way, please contact Louise and Ray Downs.

BIBLE STUDY

Bible Study will resume September 5th.
