Dear Parishioners:

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Are you wearing your green? This summer I plan to visit Ireland for the first time and possibly see some of my relatives. I’m told that if I kiss the Blarney Stone, my homilies will improve???

I continue to be impressed and honored to be a member of St. Robert’s. As a volunteer and parishioner, I am overwhelmed by the generosity and involvement of our people in the "Building for a New Century" campaign. Over fifty years ago, my aunt and uncle, Grace and Tony Giannotti (doesn’t sound Irish) raised funds to build our School and Church. They deservedly felt a certain pride and ownership for their efforts. Over the years others have continued that effort with many improvements, such as the stained glass windows and the re-modeled altar. This has been my first time to be involved in a fund raising effort.

Based on my experience, and that of the other volunteers, all of the people visited have been warm and welcoming, which has made our efforts much easier than many of us had anticipated. One of the benefits has been this opportunity to meet and talk with the people we see in church. As the drive nears its completion, all parishioners should be proud, gratified, thankful, and praise God for the opportunity we now have to take ownership for ourselves in the continued growth of St. Robert’s.

Thank God always for this loving community,

Deacon Duffey

STATIONS OF THE CROSS AND LENTEN SUPPERS

On each Friday during the Season of Lent (except for Good Friday), all are invited to participate in Stations of the Cross at 6:00 p.m. in the church. Stations will be followed by a light Lenten Supper in Hennessy Hall. We ask that you put into the basket provided the amount you would have spent on your Friday evening meal. Our St. Vincent de Paul Society will use your donation to help our sisters and brothers in need. If you are new to St . Robert’s, this is a good way to meet and get to know other members of our Parish Family. Jesus says to each of us:

I HAVE CALLED YOU BY NAME!

The Supper on March 22nd will be hosted by RCIA, Teens, and Women’s Guild.

"Communal Penance"

At the beginning of this Lent, I entered into it thinking, "Do we have to go through this again?" Although I knew I could use a good examination of conscience and confession, all the penitential posturing about what sinners we are seemed hollow to me. I was resisting it. "Why do we focus on how bad we are? Why do we have to remind ourselves that we are sinners?"

What I have realized, once again, over the past month, is what a breath of fresh air—a grace—the entire penitential exercise is. From examination to repentance to confession to absolution to penance to conversion—all guided and held by God’s merciful Spirit—the small pains and discomforts of it all don’t hold a candle to the freedom and joy of being reconciled to God and renewed in Spirit.

When we need it, God calls us by name to repentance. We have two communal penance services in the upcoming weeks - Saturday, March 23, 3pm and Monday, March 25, 7:30pm. My testimony to you this week is take advantage of this healing, comforting, strengthening Sacrament if your heart is longing for it. Be not afraid!

Like all of the Church’s sacraments, Penance is not meant to be solely individual nor private. Even in individual confessions on Saturday afternoons, we do well to remember that the Church is celebrating the sacrament. As the Church’s official Introduction to the Sacrament of Penance teaches, "God grants pardon for sin through the Church, which works by the ministry of priests." Our communal services highlight that truth. We are reminded that our reconciliation with God entails our reconciliation with each other in the Church. When it comes to setting ourselves aright, we need God and each other. Hope to see you at one of our services!       PVK

For each of us and for our sisters and brothers who are preparing for the Easter Sacraments, may we renew and profess our Baptismal vows with conviction and zeal.

LENTEN COMMUNAL PENANCE SERVICES

Jesus tell us:

I have called you by name——
you are precious in my eyes
and I love you!

By these words, Jesus calls us to repentance and to faith. Have we allowed our minds to become insensitive to untruth, to bad behavior, to immorality? Growth as a Christian requires a constant effort and involves an endless attempt to purify our motives, behavior, and our insensitivity to the rights of others. We have a simple, but wonderful means to do this...The Sacrament of Reconciliation. We come together as a Parish Family to confess our sins, receive God’s merciful forgiveness, and return home burden-free and filled with joy. We celebrate two Lenten Penance Services on:

Saturday - March 23rd, at 3:00 p.m.
Monday - March 25th, at 7:30 p.m.

GOOD FRIDAY WALK
March 29th

Hope you can join us for this beautiful walk.

GOOD FRIDAY CHILDREN'S PROGRAM

The Children’s Liturgy Team will again be holding a Good Friday Program for children aged three and older. While the parents attend church services the children will experience the Stations of the Cross on their level. They will also be taking part in various craft activities relating to Lent and Easter. So that we can be sure to have sufficient material for the crafts, please pre-register your child by calling 589-2800 or 952-7126 and leave your name, your child's name and their age along with your phone number. Doors open at 1:15 p.m. Please pick up your children immediately after the church services.

Thank You

Human Cloning-Some people want to use cloning to produce live-born children who are "copies" of living or deceased people. Others would use it to mass-produce human embryos to be destroyed in medical research. The Human Cloning Prohibition Act (S. 1899, H.R. 2505) will ban human cloning for either purposes. The U.S. House of Representatives has already passed H.R. 2505. That measure or its Senate companion, S. 1899, awaits a Senate vote. President Bush says he will sign the Act into law. Please write to Senator Feinstein and Boxer to support this legislation. For more information consult. U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops on cloning: www.usccb.org/prolife/issues/bioethic.

Website for Catholic Youth: Disciples Now is an innovative and faith-filled web-based ministry for Catholic teens. It has been developed by youth ministers, campus ministers, catechetical leaders, and diocesan staff members in partnership with publishers and other youth-serving agencies. It includes a "Since you asked" feature with responses to teen questions of faith and life by Fr. Gary Bagley, Director of Youth Ministry for the Diocese of Buffalo, New York as well as a variety of interactive catechetical and fun features. Nearly 3500 teens visit the site each day. Feel free to check it out on the web at www.DisciplesNow.com.

Dear Parishioners,

On behalf of the Parish, I sent a check for $250 to Peninsula Christian Fellowship Church on Cedar. Recently, their Church was severely damaged by fire. Their Senior Pastor, Rev. John Grussi, sent a note of gratitude and prayers.

Sincerely,
Father Ring

AMERICAN BISHOPS' OVERSEAS APPEAL
THIS SUNDAY

In our efforts to ensure security and a sense of well- being at home, we must not turn our backs on our brothers and sisters who suffer or are in need in the developing world. Rather, we must recognize our inter-connection with them in an increasingly close-knit world. Your donation to this week’s second collection - the American Bishops’ Overseas Appeal (ABOA) - demonstrates solidarity with those who Jesus called "these least brothers of mine" (Mt 25:40). ABOA helps fund the work of Catholic Relief Services, the Holy Father’s Relief Fund, and the U.S. Bishops’ Migration and Refugee Services and international peace and justice initiatives. Please join in this powerful way of building global solidarity through your generous gift.
