PARISH BULLETIN |
Dear Parishioners, Now that Tax day has gone into the past you can relax and enjoy the beauty of Springtime. New life is bursting forth and the joy of the Resurrection permeates all Creation. Amid all this joy there is sadness. People are killing one another in the Holy Land, the land that witnessed the Resurrection. Our church is going through a time of trial and pain. But the words of Jesus, "It is I" are as true today as when He said them 2000 years ago. These words were spoken when storms rocked the boat of His followers and they were in danger of drowning. They were spoken after the Resurrection when He appeared to the apostles who were so dejected after the betrayal and denial. When we are in trouble we can always count on Him to say these words again. Today, April 21st, is World Day of Prayer for Vocations. It is appropriately celebrated on Good Shepherd Sunday. Just as sheep need a good shepherd so our Church today needs men and women committed to providing for Gods people. God still calls people of our time. Are we listening with open hearts? It is within the Christian community that Gods call to service is heard and nurtured. What a wonderful evening of fun and music we had on Saturday, April 13th in Hennessy Hall. Don Thompson made the organ come alive. Local talent was very much in evidence, and everyone enjoyed the sing-along. The dinner prepared by the In-Betweeners added so much to the evening. If you missed the evening you missed a treat. God bless you all, |
You Are Invited Dear Parishioners, Almost fifty parishioners attended the open forum on the scandals within the Church this past week. I believe the exchange of thoughts and feelings about the issue were helpful to all of us. For this reason, we will have another forum on Tuesday evening, April 30th at 7:30 p.m. in Hennessy Hall. The topic will be the growing shortage of priests within Church and whether changes are needed. I hope you will mark your calendar and plan to attend. |

Acts of the Apostles 6:1-7 |
In St. Pauls first letter to the Corinthians, he writes:
Everyone in the Church is called to take on responsibility appropriate to their station in life. Some are called to devote themselves fully to family or friends who need their care. Some are called to teach children, teens, or adults. Some are called to share a specific talent or skill organizing, carpentry, or artistry, for examples. Some are called to priesthood, diaconate, or religious life and service. Some are called to pray for others. Some are called to rest and refresh themselves for a time. The list goes on and is as diverse as the people in the Church. As each of us meets Jesus, crucified but now alive, we are called to be his hands and feet and voice to be His Body. Easter season is a good time to answer the call to ministry. As we look ahead to Summer and even the next school year, the needs for dedicated ministers are many. Discern your skills, talents, and interests carefully, and then answer the call from your church, from your family, or from your local community. Be the hands and voice of Christ where He calls you. When you find your calling, much is asked of you, but you also receive much in return. Next week Ill print a long list of names and ministries in the parish for you to consider. Have a great week. St. Roberts web site is: www.saintroberts.org. A Catholic Site for Seekers: A new internet ministry from the Franciscans (sponsors of St. Anthony Messenger Press) seeks to help inactive Catholics reconnect with a local Catholic faith community. This site, www.oncecatholic.org, offers a special place where inactive Catholics can ask questions, interact with on-line companions, find resources and reconnect with a local parish. This website may also be beneficial for those of you are practicing Catholics. While out out town you can check for nationwide Mass times and locations at (1-800-627-7846) or Internet at www.Masstimes.org Human Cloning: Some people want to use cloning to produce live-born children who are "copies" of living or deceased people. Others would use it to mass-produce human embryos to be destroyed in medical research. The Human Cloning Prohibition Act (S. 1899, H.R. 2505) will ban human cloning for either of these purposes. The U.S. House of Representatives has already passed H.R. 2505. That measure or its Senate companion, S. 1899, awaits a Senate vote. President Bush says he will sign the Act into law. Please write to Senator Feinstein and Boxer to support this legislation. For more information, consult: U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops on cloning: www.usccb.org/prolife/issues/bioethic. Website for Catholic Youth: Disciples Now is an innovative and faith-filled web-based ministry for Catholic teens. It has been developed by youth ministers, campus ministers, catechetical leaders, and diocesan staff members in partnership with publishers and other youth-serving agencies. It includes a "Since you asked" feature with responses to teen questions of faith and life by Fr. Gary Bagley, Director of Youth Ministry for the Diocese of Buffalo, New York as well as a variety of interactive catechetical and fun features. Nearly 3500 teens visit the site each day.
