PARISH BULLETIN |
Dear Parishioners, One night last week I took a stroll up Oak Street to the convent chapel to meet a few of the new RCIA participants. As I passed by the church, family and friends of a soon-to-be bride and groom were milling about, laughing and talking, having just finished the rehearsal for their wedding. Plenty of smiles there. Moving on up the hill ("Puff, puff, man, I gotta get in shape!"), I noticed that the parking lot was half full (as opposed to half empty). "Somethings happening around here," I thought. I reached the school and heard the boog-a-loo of a John Fogarty tune coming from Hennessy Hall. A group of school parentswe could call them "The New Mamas and the Papas"were rehearsing for a special gala performance at the Festival. Sounds real good! More smiles. Finally, I drop into the chapel, seeing plenty of new faces and already familiar faces. You could feel the excitement and nervous energy around the new RCIA seekers, the RCIA team, and former participants who had returned to the cozy little room where so much that is holy happens. Again, smiles. I could have been Ricardo Montalban on "Fantasy Island" walking around saying, "Smiles, everyone, smiles!" New beginningsweddings, inquiry into Faithand celebrationsFestival, weddings (again!)are good signs of life. This weekend, we have a big Festival celebration. Its amazing what some hard-working people can do on a site next to a construction site. Congratulations and thank you to everyone who has made this years Festival a success. Next weekend, we have a big new beginning. If you havent already heard, be advised that the weekend Mass schedule is changing to:
Thats a significant new beginning for us, but with such Spirit here, I hope each and every Eucharist will also be a significant celebration for us, no matter what time its at. (Although I also hope we can all celebrate on time!) St. Roberts shows good signs of life: new membership, celebration, change, and smiles. Next Sunday also happens to be "Respect Life Sunday." Lets not only respect all lifeespeciallly human lifebut also cherish it. Thank You, Life-Giving Spirit of God, for the life we enjoy and through which we struggle. Amen. Pat Vallez-Kelly |

RESPECT LIFE MONTH |
Throughout the month of October, to the left of our sanctuary, you will see a banner with a red rose imprinted upon it. The rose symbolizes Gods gift of life to us. It reminds us that human life, at all its stages, is precious and deserves respect. Our banner will help us to affirm the goodness of Gods creating by valuing the unborn; providing for the poor; rooting out the cause of violence and war; ending the death penalty and protecting the elderly, infirm and terminally ill. We pray that God will give us the strength and wisdom to truly love life. |
