Dear Friends

A friend was describing a film they had seen recently—-"...a passionate love story." True, it is a love story different from the usual cinematic versions we are accustomed to: `boy-meets-girl...etc.' A love story of great passion—-the love and faithfulness of God for a people God calls His very own.

It is a love story which does not, cannot, leave us as politely attentive bystanders. It is a story of such drama—-such passion—-that we are `caught-up' in the love of Christ for us. The faithfulness of Christ's love for us—-His faithfulness even in the face of suffering and death—-leads us to walk with Him in the awe and wonder of a love which is victorious even over sin and death.

And so we hear once again the age-old story,"...a passionate love story...with a dramatic flair,...a story which engages...us". We enter into the mystery of Christ's love for us—-for He is the Light not overtaken by the darkness, He is that love which conquers hatred and the sin of pride, that passion which is victorious even over death.

May this story, this passion, fill us with hope and light.

To Jesus Christ, God's Word of Love, be glory and worship in the Church, today and always. And the Church says: AMEN!

Father Tom

Prayer for the Men and Women in the Armed Services

Heavenly Father,
Bless and protect all who serve the cause of peace. Bring them home safely to their loved ones. Bless with compassion and love all the victims of war. Receive into your loving arms all who have died. Console and comfort their families.

Holy Spirit,
Enlighten the minds of all world leaders. Direct them toward an end to all hatred, violence, terrorism and war. Grant us a world with a just and lasting peace.

With Confidence and Faith, we pray through Christ, Our Lord.

Amen

LENTEN COMMUNAL PENANCE SERVICES
Monday, April 14th, 7:30pm

If you haven't, as yet, celebrated a Communal Penance Service, you will be pleasantly surprised. This is a very special prayer service that lifts the spirits and opens the heart to God's healing power. There is a wonderful sense of being with others who share the same faith and values. We come together in song, greeting, Scripture readings, homily and the opportunity for individual confession (with individual absolution and penance). We go to the priest of our choice and mention sins or sinful attitudes for which we are sorry. Speaking through the priest, Jesus forgives our sins and we are reconciled with God and with one another. We come closer to our God and have His loving assurance of His forgiveness. All we need is sorrow. Jesus is waiting—- He will do the rest!

GOOD FRIDAY CHILDREN'S PROGRAM

The Children's Liturgy Team will again be holding a Good Friday Program for Children three and older. While the parents attend church services the children will experience the stations of the cross on their level. They will also be taking part in various craft activities relating to Lent and Easter. So that we can be sure to have sufficient material for the crafts please pre-register your child by calling 589-2000 and leave your name, your child's name and their age along with your phone number. Doors open at 1:15 p.m. Please pick up your children immediately after church services.

Thank you

I see the graphic pictures in the newspaper, but for some reason, their suffering doesn't seem to hit home. I don't know if I'm too busy to sympathize, too hard of heart, or too removed to "feel their pain," but the people who have been injured and whose lives have been so disrupted in Iraq seem too far away. I wonder what sort of healing—what sort of resurrection—will God provide for them?

People suffer in many ways, at all times, and all around the world. We don't have to look to Iraq to find people suffering. People suffer in our homes and streets of San Bruno. This week, the suffering, death, and resurrection of Christ are made present to us in powerful ways through the liturgies of Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and Easter Sunday. It's through Christ and in the Spirit that we have solidarity with those throughout the world who suffer and with those who rise from it. Religion, "re-ligio," is a way to "re-connect" with God and fellow people. I hope you will be able to practice our religion this week to find Communion with God and the human family renewed and strengthened. Pat Vallez-Kelly

THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS!

Thanks to the 12 men and women who showed up in the upper yard last Saturday. Your help was greatly appreciated. While we had anticipated that the storage bin would be gone, it wasn't. Still a great job was done in clearing out the brush and debris. The sister's windows are magnificent.

If you didn't get a chance to help last week, we will give you another opportunity. We could use your help again on Saturday, April 26th at 9:00 a.m. Please mark your calendar as school will be on Easter Break.

As we pray during Lent to "Renew us in the Light of Faith", we ask you also to join the Archdiocese as we pray,
