PARISH BULLETIN |
Dear Parishioners, In the Gospel this weekend we hear that the disciples recognized Jesus in the breaking of the Bread. While reading this passage my mind started thinking about bread and then about yeast. I remember a story my cousin recently told me about yeast. My cousin had her two granddaughters staying for the weekend. For breakfast she decided to make pancakes from scratch. As she was showing the children what she was doing she mentioned that the yeast had been handed down in her family for over 150 years. Well, when the pancakes were ready the children were afraid to eat them - being that they were 150 years old, they couldn't possibly be fresh or taste any good. I remember when I was a kid and I first witnessed the effect of yeast on dough. It seemed like magic, almost scary. The growing blob of dough expanded before my eyes as if it were alive. And of course, there was plenty of life in it. I read in a recent publication that, "Faith in our lives is like yeast in the dough". Faith is like magic, almost scary. The growing of faith expands before our eyes as if it is alive. And of course, there is plenty of life in it. Christ is the Bread of Life. Our faith is the yeast. We pray that we too may recognize Jesus in the breaking of the Bread. May others also recognize our faith by what they see in us. Like yeast, may we go forth and amaze someone. Deacon Duffey |
An Important Need You'll notice today that we have returned to using the Music Issue songbooks from Oregon Catholic Press. Our trial process of making songbooks "in house" has ended. It proved to be a more difficult and expensive process than we had bargained for. Thank you for your patience through our many music transitions over the past six months! As I prepare to step away from liturgical and administrative duties at St. Robert's, one of my goals is to find a new chairperson for the Liturgy Committee. I will certainly be making personal invitations to specific individuals to consider serving as chairperson for two years, but I also want to make our need known to all. Like our parishioners who chair the Parish Council and School Board, the person to chair the Liturgy Committe would need to have a commitment to good liturgy at St. Robert's and some organizational / leadership skills. Beyond that, an expertise in liturgy is not required. We have parish staff members on the committee who can provide important liturgical counsel. Under its current rules, the Liturgy Committee meets on nine evenings a year to prepare, coordinate and evaluate liturgical seasons and celebrations, to make recommendations to the pastor and staff for liturgical developments and to educate itself about liturgical principles. Please join me in prayer and feel free to contact me with ideas for sustaining the valuable work and leadership of this committee. Thank you. Pat Vallez-Kelly |
