PARISH BULLETIN |
Father Vincent D. Ring, the Parish Staff PRESENTATION EDUCATION CENTER May 24th Most Reverend Ignatius Wang, |
Dear Parishioners: In recent weeks our parish has witnessed a number of beautiful celebrations. On Saturday, April 26th, sixty-five Sophomores received the Sacrament of Confirmation. During their two-year preparation, the candidates demonstrated a willingness and readiness to receive the Sacrament. Our hope is that they continue in their committment by being connected to parish life and make efforts to get involved in some form of parish ministry at St. Robert's. Father Ring and I have invited and encouraged them to do so. These past two weekends, eighty-five children received the Eucharist for the first time. There were four celebrations, each one more beautiful than the other. The children were wonderful and parents had to be very proud of them. Celebrations such as these are a source of great hope and life to our parish. The psalm response prayed by the First Communicants, "TASTE AND SEE THE GOODNESS OF THE LORD", sums it all up so well. What does it mean to "taste and see that God is good"? Naturally we think of the Eucharist. This is a wonderful way of tasting God's goodness and there are many others as well. We can feed on good memories and remember how we have been blessed with God's love in family through friends and in our relationships. Today's Gospel, Jesus uses the image of the grapevine to affirm rather than scold. The vinegrower is God, the vine is Jesus and we are the branches. We branches are connected not alone to Jesus but to one another. God's life and love flowing from Jesus through the Spirit nourishes and unites us. This week let us reflect on the image of the vine and on the nourishment and life that we receive from it. Sister Mary |
As a Parish Community, We Pray...For those who have received the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and First Eucharist...may they be filled with the Holy Spirit, become Jesus' disciples and bear much fruit. |

Easter Renewal If you ever look for ways to freshen up your observances of religious seasons and feasts, the Sourcebook for Sundays and Seasons from Liturgy Training Publications is a great resource. (You can probably find it on Amazon.com or try Kaufer's Bookstore at 55 Beverly St. in SF.) It has many suggestions for celebrating faith at church and in the home. Following is a sample of the reflections found in the Sourcebook: -P. V.-K. If Easter is working its wonder, you are different today than you were a year ago. Lent and Easter are seasons of renewal in the church. Each Lent we strive to face our sin, do penance and rise with Jesus. We draw on the power of these seasons to celebrate the love of God in our life, a love that accepts us in our sinfulness and calls us into grace. Each year, if Easter works its wonder, we grow in holiness. But there is one problem. Even though we may be different, other people may not realize it. They may treat us the same, making it hard for us to live fully the new life of grace. Take Saul, for example [from today's 1st reading]. Before his conversion he persecuted Christians. After his conversion he lived for Christ alone. But there was one problem. People didn't trust Saul. When he showed up in Jerusalem among the disciples, they were afraid of him because they didn't believe he had changed. Only when Barnabas defended Saul could he move about freely. The mystery of renewal begins in the quiet of each person's heart, and gradually it converts the community.
