PARISH BULLETIN |
Dear Parishioners: We are nearing the end of the Easter Season. Soon we will be back to Ordinary Time. This Sunday we celebrate the Feast of the Ascension. In the Gospel we hear Jesus tell his disciples to go into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel to every creature. You and I are his disciples. How are we proclaiming the Gospel? This is something that each one of us has to decide for ourselves. We do so through the ordinary, everyday events of our daily lives. As Ordinary Time begins again let's make our every action something special-a real proclamation of the Gospel. I wish you all a very happy summer. By the way, I do not intend to leave St. Robert's. I'll be around as usual when I retire. Every blessing, |
A NOTE FROM FATHER RING Dear Parishioners, The blessing of the new PRESENTATION EDUCATION CENTER was a great success. We were honored by the presence of Bishop Ignatius Wang, the Auxiliary Bishop of San Francisco, Sister Joan O'Sullivan, PBVM, the Provincial of the Presentation Sisters and Maureen Huntington, the Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Archdiocese. Thank you to Jim Ruane who served as Master of Ceremonies. Jim was also present in two other capacities, one as Councilman representing the City of San Bruno and the other as a member of Building Committee of the Parish. Thank you also to Pat Vallez-Kelly who prepared the Blessing ceremony and the Liturgy that followed. The presence of the children's choir made the event very special. Hospitality was provided by the Women's Guild and the Men's Club. Over three hundred parishioners were present and had the opportunity to see the new Kindergarten room named in honor of John and Connie Voreyer, the science and art room named in memory of Marion Mahoney and, of course, the computer room which will be used by the children and, we hope in the near future, by adults of the Parish. Thank you to six hundred plus families who donated or pledged over $1,600,000 to make this new Center possible, as well as the renovation of the old kindergarten room. I hope that we can have another "open house" at the end of summer so all parishioners will have an opportunity to see what your generosity has brought about. Sincerely, |

"See You in Our House" Five years ago, in May of 1998, after I had agreed to Fr. Ring to come to work at St. Robert's, I came to a Sunday morning Mass to get acquainted with St. Robert's as a worshiping community. At the end of mass, a curly red haired lady who had been seated with her husband in front of me turned around toward me and asked me if I'd join their choir. I told her I'd probably get involved! In so many ways, and by so many people, I have been invited to be involved in people's lives at St. Robert's. I feel very blessed to have been welcomed so warmly into St. Robert's community and to have worked and celebrated with many of you. Thank you for supporting me, for challenging me, for being patient with my shortcomings and for forgiving my sins. Thanks especially to my close coworkers on the Parish Staff and Liturgy Committee. Too often I have received credit for the work of many people! Today's "In Our House" column will be my last. I hope that there has been an item or two in here over the past years that has explained something valuable or prompted some new reflection or action for you. For us in the Church, doing liturgy, and doing it well (that is, with "full, conscious, and active participation") is important work. It shapes our identity as Catholic Christians and we are urged to recognize it as the source and summit of our Christian lives. And this is not so simply because we come together to do some important group work or socializing, but moreso because when we come together to pray and sing together, to listen to God's Word, to celebrate a Sacrament, and to be united with our apostolic leaders, we come to know that Jesus remains with us in his Spirit. To know through these things that God is so faithful to us is something truly worthy of celebration. It is right to give God thanks and praise. See you in church! See you in our house! - Pat Vallez-Kelly |
