PARISH BULLETIN |
Dear Friends, Today we celebrate the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. What do the words "Holy Family" bring to mind? Do we envision the Holy Family at the perfect family with the perfect mother, perfect father and perfect child? Is their life one of total peace and joy, untouched by sadness or pain? Not so this Holy Family!!! Together they experienced the glorious night of Jesus' birth, which was soon followed by Simeon's shocking words to Mary. A very short time later, came the dark night of their escape from Herod's soldiers. Were they lonely as exiles in the land of Egypt? Back home in Nazareth, Mary must have spent her days making a home for Joseph and Jesus. She taught Jesus about His Father, our God. Her tenderness and concern for her family, her compassion, empathy and complete trust in God were Jesus' first lessons in what it means to love and be loved. Jesus must have watched Joseph closely, wanting to be "just like Dad". Joseph's devotion to Jesus and to Mary, his wisdom, patience, his deep faith and enduring hope taught Jesus what it means to be a man. Into the life of all parents comes a day when their child pulls away-asserts independence. When this happens, they feel a devasting sense of loss. So it was with Mary and Joseph too. On their return journey home from the Temple, they discovered Jesus was not with them. Exhausted and drained, they cautiously opened the door of the Temple-There was Jesus!!! Disappointment and heartache come to every family. After the suffering and pain, come the joy of finding our loved one who has been lost to us. Once again we find ourselves whole-a holy family with Jesus the center of our lives. May God bless each of you and your families. |

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION |
As we begin a new year, lets take the time to thank God for all that He has given us and pray that the year 2004 will bring a just and lasting peace to all the world. We have the opportunity to spend an hour with Jesus before Him in His Blessed Sacrament on Saturday morning, following the 8:30 a.m. Mass and continuing until 10:00 a.m. on January 3rd and the First Saturday of each month. Mother Theresa has said: "To be alone with Jesus in adoration and intimate union with Him is the greatest gift of love-the tender love of our Father in Heaven. The fruit of our adoration is that our love for each other is more understanding, our love for the poor is more compassionate." |

We all know that feeling after a wonderful meal with close friends or family when we sit (slightly stuffed!) and just enjoy each other's company. These days after the feast itself are meant to be like that: an opportunity to savor the beauty and meaning of the Son of God becoming a human being. Keep your decorations up! Either turn your Advent wreath into a Christmas wreath with fresh greens, red candles and ribbons or save the tray and the frame for next year. Wear your Christmas sweater at least until the Epiphany next Sunday. Listen to Christmas music with only your tree lit. What are you most thankful for during the past year? As you look ahead to New Year's and the traditional making of resolutions, what one change in your life might make a difference in your relationship with God and with your community? At Christmas, we celebrate Jesus' birth in a Jewish family, made known to Jewish shepherds. Next weekend we celebrate the Epiphany, the Feast of the Three Kings, when Jesus is recognized as the Savior of all people. Please come with your eyes and ears ready. |
