Dear Parishioners,

"I am the resurrection and the life;
If anyone believes in me,
even though he dies he will live,
And whoever lives and believes in me
Will never die.
Do you believe this? " John 11:25-26

This weekend we read these words from scripture and reflect on them. Our Catholic faith is so encouraging and inspiring. Jesus offers us such reassurance before He offered His life for us on the Cross. He wanted to guarantee us eternal life.

This weekend we will also celebrate the Anointing of the Sick. The Anointing is a special sacrament celebrated by all those who are elderly, sick in mind or body. In the olden days this sacrament was known as Extreme Unction and administered to only those very close to death. It was often looked on as a death knell - the Lord beckoning one home. This is no longer the case and Christians can now enjoy the graces and blessings derived from the sacrament without the fear of imminent death.

There is another kind of death taking place daily across our country. Actually, it is taking place across all cultures. This is an emotional death, the death of innocence and childhood. Hundreds of children and teens are being abused and molested sexually, physically and psychology everyday. These children are calling out to you, the adults of our society, to take a stand and stamp out such abuse. We, at St. Robert's just completed three workshops entitled. "Out of Harm's Way" with the hope to empower parents with a new way of thinking and responding to an ever changing society. It is the wish of the Archbishop that every parent attends these workshops. These workshops will be offered again in the Fall. Hope to see many of you in attendance. In the meanwhile continue to pray for children and teenagers.

May God bless and protect each and every one of you as you prepare for Holy Week and Easter.

Sister Patricia

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

On Saturday, April 3rd, following the 8:30 am Mass and continuing until 10:00 am, we have the privilege of sitting before Jesus in His blessed sacrament. It is an opportunity to reflect upon Jesus' passion and death and thank Him for loving us so much that He suffered and died that we might have eternal life. He has told us: "I am with you always until the end of the world". Together may we reply: "Lord, I do believe." He is waiting!

Palm Sunday
Next weekend, we celebrate Palm Sunday of the Lord's Passion, the beginning of the holiest week of our Church year. We hear the powerful reading from Isaiah 50, one of the four Servant Songs which the Church has always applied to Jesus, the suffering servant of God. The reading from St. Paul to the Philippians is the great hymn used often by the early Church in its liturgy and extolling Jesus as Lord. The reading of the Passion according to Luke invites us to enter into the mystery of Jesus' suffering and dying for us.

One of Jesus' prayers at the Last Supper was for the unity of his followers. Next Sunday, we will gather with our friends and neighbors from St. Andrew's Episcopal Church for the blessing of the palms in San Bruno Park at 9 am. The palms will be blessed, we'll hear the story of that first Palm Sunday, process together for a bit, then to our separate churches where we'll continue with the liturgy. Please come early next week, so you can join us. (Blest palms will, of course, be distributed at all the Masses.)

We will celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Saturday April 3rd at 3 pm and again on Wednesday, April 10th at 7:30 pm. If your Lenten practices have shown you where you need a change of heart, this would be a wonderful opportunity to celebrate God's gift of forgiveness and celebrate the Three Days with a new heart.

If you haven't already, please mark your calendar for the services of the Triduum, our participation in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. At 7:30 pm on Holy Thursday, we celebrate Jesus' whole life of service and his giving himself to us in the Eucharist. We wash feet as he did and recommit ourselves to following his gospel. On Good Friday, various parishioners will offer personal reflections on the Stations of the Cross at 12 noon; at 1:30 pm we'll celebrate the Liturgy of the Word, the Veneration of the Cross and Holy Communion. (Please note the Children's Good Friday service elsewhere in the bulletin.) At 7:30 pm, the youth of the parish will present the Passion.

Then on Saturday at 8 pm comes the Easter Vigil! This is THE most important celebration for us as Catholics, the Resurrection of Jesus, the source of our hope, the promise fulfilled, the Reign of God breaking into the sorrows of our lives. Death doesn't have the last word. The power of God is stronger, even when all seems lost. We light the Easter candle, the Light of Christ, bless the new water, baptize new Catholics and sing as many alleluias as we can! Please come and celebrate with the Church throughout the world! Easter Sunday, we'll continue to celebrate at four Masses: 7:30 am, 9 am, 10:30 am and 12 noon. May the Spirit continue to prepare us to enter wholeheartedly into Holy Week.
