PARISH BULLETIN |
Stewards
of God's Gifts |
Dear Parishioners, Today the 25th Sunday in ordinary time is designated as Catechetical Sunday. This annual celebration and the commissioning of Catechists is an important way for the parish to recognize and affirm those men and women who generously and with great dedication share their gifts of faith and service with others. Here at St. Robert we will have commissioning of our Catechists at 9:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Mass. In reflecting on this years theme for Catechetical Sunday Stewards of Gods Gifts we are reminded that all of us share the responsibility to work generously, using the gifts that God has given us to grow in our faith. St. Roberts is truly blessed with the number of dedicated people who give so generously in the role of service to the parish. May we all continue to be faithful stewards of Gods gifts especially the gift of faith. May God bless our ministry of caring and teaching for the passing on of his gifts. Sincerely, |
The Church Is Open St. Robert's Church is open before the 6:30am Mass until 5pm. As you're going to or from work or school or are on your way to the park, why not come in and thank the Lord for the gift of life and the beauty of these days? God's peace will refresh you. |

ROBERT'S READERS |
"Home to Harmony" by Philip Gulley is the newest book for the Robert's Readers. This is a delightful book about a Quaker pastor, Sam Gardner, and the town of Harmony. The author Philip Gulley is, himself, a Quaker minister, and this book grew out of essays that Gulley wrote for his church newsletter. The San Mateo library system has seven copies, so it is readily available. We will be discussing this book THIS Tuesday, September 21st, at 7pm in Marys Chapel. If you have any questions, please call Colleen Soracco. |

RIGHT TO LIFE |
Did you know there are approximately 1.4 million abortions per year in the United States, an average of nearly 4,000 every day! Polls tell us that half of all Americans believe abortion should be illegal through much of pregnancy. What can we do to bring an end to abortionwe can pray for all pregnant women, for all pre-born children, family members, abortion providers and government leaders. We can be aware of public policy issues and make our voice known. Nothing is impossible with God. |
Thank you for your generous donation of $2,628.15 to our School, CCD and Confirmation programs. |

Strong Readings Once weve celebrated the life, death and resurrection of Jesus through the Triduum and the coming of the Spirit at Pentecost, the readings during Ordinary Time are meant to lay out for us how we are to live as disciples of Jesus. The readings today are strong! Amos, once a simple shepherd called by God to be a prophet, reminds us that God remembers the injustices done against the poor. Our scripture group this morning spoke of prophets and how unwelcome they were then and still are. Dorothy Day, Mahatma Gandhi, and Martin Luther King, Jr. raised issues of justice to people who were used to things being unjust, who possibly didnt realize how degrading the status quo was to those on the under side. Those who profited from the inequality, perhaps unknowingly, didnt want to change the status quo. Though nonviolent, consistent, prayerful protests and much suffering these modern prophets changed their societies. We spoke of today when some people cheat undocumented persons since they cant go to the authorities and of women trafficked from desperate countries, lured with promises of work as nannies or housekeepers, but once far from their homes, become trapped in a life of prostitution when their passports are confiscated. There is so much negative happening in this world which God loves and we dont want to get discouraged by focusing on that. We spoke also of Cut It Out and other efforts being made to help victims of domestic violence. This is a group of hairdressers who through their conversations with clients collaborate with nonprofit agencies to assist women being abused. And we asked ourselves: What might each of us be called to? How do we use our time, our energy, our money? For starters, what do we have that we dont need? Could we take some time to go through our closets or the kitchen and give clothing we dont need to the St. Vincent de Paul store in South City or to bring food here for our parish pantry? What about you? When you hear these readings, what does the Spirit say to your heart? Mighty Times, the Legacy of Rosa Parks Our group will be watching a 40 minute video on the life and times of Rosa Parks and invite you to join us if youd like. Please come to Marys Chapel at 9:15 am Tuesday. Breast Cancer Walk As you are aware, many women in our parish are survivors of breast cancer. If anyone is interested in participating in the 3Day Breast Cancer Walk, you can get information at www.The3 Day.org or by calling 800-996-3DAY. Vickie Sciacqua from our parish is walking and would be happy to accept your donations or to have someone walk with her. Her number is 650-589-0670. Womens Retreat Day Our retreat day for the women of the parish is scheduled for Mercy Center on Saturday, November 13. If you came last year, youll remember what an uplifting day it was. If you were not able to participate, please talk to someone who did and then put it on your calendar. Well meet from 8:30 to 3 pm with lunch included. More information will be forthcoming. |
