PARISH BULLETIN |
Dear Parishioners, As you may have read in the Catholic San Francisco, John Meyer, one of the newly ordained deacons, has been assigned here to St. Roberts. I look forward to ministering with Deacon John and his wife Bernadette. John and his wife are actually parishioners of Epiphany parish in San Francisco. Since Epiphany parish has multiple deacons, and because Deacon John has worked with Msgr. Dreier in the past, the Archbishop felt comfortable in assigning Deacon John to assist us. I would like to assure everyone that the Archbishop has not reassigned me. I will, however, be gone for most of the month of July. I will be on vacation with my wife, Renee, visiting France, Spain and Portugal. Thinking back fifteen years ago, when I was newly ordained and assigned here to St. Roberts, I cant help but remember the extremely warm and enthusiastic welcome Renee and I received. It is my hope that you will also be extremely welcoming to Deacon John and his wife Bernadette. I was also aided when I arrived by our deceased Deacon Jack Bourne. Both he and Mary, his wife, assisted Renee and I with much appreciated ministerial advice. Renee and I hope to be able to assist John and Bernadette however we can. I look forward to learning more about Deacon John, perhaps in a future parish bulletin, and sharing our diaconal ministry. Once again, please join me in welcoming them to our wonderful parish of St. Roberts. - - Deacon Rusty Duffey |

The first reading is from the prophet Zechariah and speaks of the coming of a king who shall be a just savior, meek and riding on a colt, the foal of an ass. How interesting that on this Fourth of July weekend we also hear: he shall proclaim peace to the nations. As we continue to pray for the people of Iraq and Afghanistan and for our servicemen and women serving there, let us keep in mind that peace isnt just what we want, but what God intends for the whole world. It is a complicated world situation, for sure, and it is easy to feel helpless. Those of us who are old enough remember the practice of the Morning Offering. We could offer whatever each day brings, with its joys and sufferings, for an openness to Gods gift of peace on the part of everyone in the world. Last Tuesday KQED, Channel 9, had a program on The New Heroes, highlighting social entrepreneurs who have invested their money and their creativity to address some very specific problems among the poorest of the poor. The second part of the series is on this Tuesday evening. Information on the group they have founded is available at www.thenewheroes.org. The tragedy in Darfur continues with 400,000 persons killed and an estimated 2.5 million displaced, many into neighbor Chad which is almost as poor. The weekend of July 15-17, weve been asked to write our legislators to take action to prevent a humanitarian disaster worse than that which occurred in Rwanda. You can get more information at www.savedarfur.org where you can also make a donation, if youd like.-Sister Sheral |
LIKE TO SING? |
If youre a 5 pm Sunday participant, wed love to have you join the choir! We practice that afternoon at 4 pm sharp. Griselda Guevara, our pianist, is a joy to work with and we have the opportunity to sing lively, uplifting songs to help everyone pray after what has usually been a busy weekend. You can e-mail Griselda at griselda74@earthlink.net if you have any questions. |
