Pastor's Update

Fr. Arnold Zamora

February 17, 2023

Things you may want to know this week.

1.

This Sunday is the 7th Sunday of the Ordinary Time. At the 9:30a.m. Mass, Stephanie Williams Davis, who has been baptized and confirmed in the Orthodox Church, will be formally accepted to full communion with the Catholic Church through her Profession of Faith. Welcome to the Roman Catholic Life, Stephanie!

2.

This Monday is President’s Day. The school and parish office will be closed.

3.

On Tuesday, February 21, the assessor of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) grant for which we apply will tour our church and our rectory. The purpose of this visit is to inspect and assess the possible areas needing improvement that can be submitted as part of our grant application. After his assessment, this person will give us a comprehensive presentation of what we need to prepare a Request for a Quotation (RFQ) that can be issued to potential vendors. These steps are all part of the grant application process. Please pray that we will be awarded this grant.

4.

Next Wednesday, February 22, is Ash Wednesday, the start of the season of Lent. We will have Stations of the Cross on all Fridays of Lent starting at 6:00p.m. in the church. Everyone of age 14 and up must abstain from consuming meat. Everyone of age 18 to 59 must fast unless exempt due to usually a medical reason. Fasting rules allow Catholics to eat only one full meal and two smaller meals which, combined, would not equal a single normal meal.

5.

The worldwide 40 Days for Life Campaign will begin on Ash Wednesday, February 22, and end on Palm Sunday, April 2. If you can spend an hour to pray the rosary at Planned Parenthood in Redwood City; please log on to 40daysforlife.com/redwoodcity
Your prayers and presence can save a baby’s life.

6.

Our St. Robert’s St. Vincent de Paul Conference is preparing to meet the grocery needs of the families we will serve at Easter. We are asking for the following food items: canned carrots, canned chili, dry beans, jam, and rice. The basket for your food donation will be in front of the Ambo for the next two weeks. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

7.

Next Wednesday, February 22, is the Second Harvest Grocery Distribution at Belle Air Elementary School on 3rd Ave. The families we are serving have increased from 215 to 230. The event is 100% staffed by volunteers from our parish and members of the community. Volunteers are always needed, and should arrive around 1:30p.m. Try helping out! Please contact Jay Morena, our 11:30a.m. Mass usher for further details.

8.

On the weekend of February 25-26, the First Sunday of Lent, we will launch our Archdiocesan Annual Appeal 2023. Expect a “love letter” from me next week before the launch. I am excited because we have a higher goal to reach, which is a direct result of the increase in our ordinary income. Yes, this is a greater challenge than last year but together we can meet and exceed this goal.

Fr. Arnold

(Father Arnold Zamora)

February 17, 2023

Dear St. Robert’s parishioners and friends,

A happy heart makes a person's face beautiful.

A joyful heart makes a person's life delightful.

A peaceful heart makes a person's life restful.

A spirit-filled heart makes a person's life meaningful and wonderful.

Guard your heart for it is the well-spring of your life.

The matter of the heart still matters.

Belated Happy Heart’s Day!

Fr. Arnold

Synod

2021 thru 2023

What is a synod?

A synod is a council of the Church, usually convened to decide an issue of doctrine, administration or application. The word synod is from the Greek sinodos (s???d??) meaning “assembly” or “meeting” and is similar to the Latin concilium meaning “council”. Sometimes the phrase “general synod” or “general council” refers to an ecumenical council, like the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965).
